Those who want to widen the downtown streets tell us that most of these
trucks from other states are local or they are needing to come downtown
because they are making local stops.
One consultant was even hired to video the license plates as the vehicles
entered and exited Goshen to see how long it would take (to see if they
might have stopped to pick up or deliver something). For some unexplained
reason, his statistics showed that many more vehicles entered Goshen than
exited Goshen on the day in question. He claimed to document nearly every
vehicle entering an leaving on that day. He never explained where all the
non-exiting vehicles ended up.
We expect to see lots of these trucks on the Toll Road. Unfortunately,
Indiana hasn't built north-south toll roads or freeways. As a result, every
local highway gets more than its comfortable share of these rigs. |
